Every alphaZ document and toolkit, with updates as they are released. Everything you download is yours to keep.
This register reviews where your energy goes: each use, its consumption and indicators, whether it is significant and where it could be improved.
This register template is supplied in fully editable MS Word format and can be easily customised and edited. The document uses pre-defined style formatting throughout, with all text in Calibri font for improved readability.
The following document labelling is included in the footer:
- Register number and title
- Information-classification
- Version
- Page number / total pages

Energy Review Register Template
The Energy Review Register is a Word template for the periodic review of energy use and for identifying Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs) to measure and monitor energy performance and any improvement achieved. It can be used within an energy management system and for ISO 50001.
What's Included in this Register
- Reviewed By and Date Reviewed - a header row to record who reviewed the register and when
- Description of the Energy Use - each use of energy across the organisation
- Current Energy Consumption / Performance - consumption and the EnPIs used to measure it
- SEU? - whether each use is a significant energy use
- Current Performance and Influencing Factors - the persons and factors that affect it
- Projected Use (EnB) and Potential for Improvement - the energy baseline and where performance could improve
- Notes - assumptions, date ranges, locations and other variables
Built for Energy Review
- Supports the energy review, significant energy uses, EnPIs and energy baseline in ISO 50001
- Gives ISO 14001 systems a record of energy use for objectives and performance monitoring
- Records the assumptions behind the figures so later reviews compare like with like
Who Needs an Energy Review Register?
Organisations implementing an energy management system or ISO 50001, and ISO 14001 organisations that want to review energy use and set energy objectives.
Using the Register
List each energy use, such as heating, lighting, vehicles, machinery and IT, with current consumption and the EnPIs used to measure it, for example kWh per square metre of floor space or fuel used per mile travelled. Decide whether each is a significant energy use, note who and what influences its performance, and use the review to set the energy baseline.
Energy Review and Objectives
The significant energy uses and the potential for improvement identified in the review are where energy objectives and targets usually come from. Record those objectives with your other company objectives on the F-Q11 Company Objectives, and track progress over time on the ER34 Environmental Performance Register.
Document Control
The footer carries the register number and title, issue, information classification and page numbering. The register can be listed with your other controlled documents on the F-IMS20 Document Register.
Works with the Energy Management Procedure
Other alphaZ documents for energy and carbon:
- PP-6-06 Environmental Energy Management Policy Procedure - sets out the energy management arrangements
- P-65 Energy Policy - the energy policy
- F-IMS62 Carbon Management Plan - sets out your carbon position and reduction plan
- ER34 Environmental Performance Register - for tracking environmental performance
- F-IMS60 Environmental Aspects and Impacts Register - for the environmental aspects of energy use
